Who I Am

I am Jason Guillard, the creator and owner of this personal blog and digital studio. My website address is: https://www.jasonguillard.com.

The Short Version

I don’t rent, sell, or trade your personal information. Period.

I collect minimal data only to operate this site and communicate with you if you choose to subscribe. I believe in digital privacy and own my own data, you should own yours, too.

What Personal Data I Collect and Why

1. Comments

When you leave comments on the site, I collect the data shown in the comments form, your IP address, and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

2. Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

3. Contact Forms

If you contact me via email or a contact form, I retain the correspondence and information you provide solely to respond to your inquiry. I do not add this information to marketing lists unless explicitly requested.

4. Cookies

This site uses cookies for essential functions only:

  • Session cookies to maintain your login state if the site has a login area.
  • Analytics cookies (anonymous, first-party) to understand traffic patterns.
  • No third-party advertising or tracking cookies are used.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some site functionality may be limited.

5. Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you visited that website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content.

6. Analytics

I use a privacy-focused, self-hosted analytics tool (Plausible or similar) that:

  • Does not use cookies
  • Does not collect personal data
  • Is GDPR, CCPA, and PECR compliant
  • Tracks only aggregated, anonymous data (page views, referral sources, device types)

7. Newsletter

If you subscribe to my newsletter (“The Build Log”), I collect your email address and name (optional). This data is stored in MailPoet, which I use to send emails. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email.

I track open and click rates to improve content, but I do not track individual behavior beyond that.

Who I Share Your Data With

No one.

I do not and will not sell, rent, or trade your personal information with third parties. The only exceptions would be if required by law or to protect my rights.

Data processors I use (like hosting and email services) have access only to the data necessary to perform their services and are bound by their own privacy policies.

How Long I Retain Your Data

  • Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely.
  • Newsletter subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion.
  • Analytics data is retained for 12 months, then anonymized.
  • Contact form submissions are kept for one year for reference, then deleted.

What Rights You Have Over Your Data

If you have an account on this site, left comments, or subscribed to the newsletter, you can request:

  • An exported file of the personal data I hold about you.
  • That I correct or erase any personal data I hold about you.

This does not include data I’m obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where I Send Your Data

Your data does not leave my controlled ecosystem of trusted, privacy-respecting services.

Security

I implement reasonable security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction. However, no online service is 100% secure.

Children’s Privacy

This site is not directed to individuals under 16. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information, please contact me to have it removed.

Changes to This Policy

I may update this privacy policy from time to time. I will notify subscribers of major changes via email and always post the latest version here with the updated date.

My Privacy Philosophy

I believe privacy is a human right, not a luxury. As someone who has built things online since 2006, I’ve seen the internet shift from open protocols to walled gardens that trade your attention and data for their profit.

This site is my small stand against that. It’s a quiet corner of the web where I own the content, you own your data, and the relationship is direct: creator and reader.
