haitian revolution mural
2020
a mural created in my office as a reinterpretation of the haitian revolution. drawn in my original style using spiral-faced, crowned characters, light beings in the physical, the piece connects heritage with invention, turning history into a living presence.

concept
the mural reimagines the haitian revolution not through literal figures, but through symbolic ones. the spiral faces represent energy, the crowns signal divine authority. instead of painting past heroes directly, i created light beings, figures standing in for spirit, struggle, and victory.

execution
painted as a line drawing in black on white, the mural emphasizes clarity and rhythm. figures lock into each other with motion, climbing, raising arms, advancing. i stripped away shading and detail, leaving only pure form, movement, gesture, and flow.

presence
the mural transforms the office into a site of memory and creation. it connects my haitian-american identity with my art practice, giving the space a landmark. these characters became the foundation of my style, spiral heads and crowns evolving into a visual language of light beings.

a personal landmark tying heritage to practice

impact
the project marked the first appearance of my light-being style. it redefined how i approach both history and art, proving that identity can be expressed through invention. the mural lives as a turning point, heritage transformed into a personal visual system.
